“The Sunset at the End of the World”

“The splendid scarlet sunset spilled across the sky, and it was more magnificent than any sunset that had ever come before it. The fires had died down at long last. The young couple watched the beautiful light show from a hilltop, their hands touching gingerly, avoiding the radiation blisters on their formerly flawless skin.”

Q1: Describe your cozy place.

A1: A comfy chair in a quiet place, with a book and a teapot. Could be anywhere, really: a coffeeshop, the ruins of a university library, the ground-zero laboratory that no one else would think to visit…

Q2: Summarize your piece in a haiku.

A2:

We were out of town

When the whole world went to hell.

Still got each other.

Q3: When the apocalypse hits, where do you imagine yourself being and why?

A3: Depends on the kind of apocalypse, really. Chances are, I’d be someplace urban and densely populated, which isn’t great for, say, alien invasions or zombies. I like to imagine that if I made it past the first 24 hours, my odds would be decent, but who can tell for sure, really?

Q4: What part about the apocalypse excites you the most?

A4: Oof. Rough question. I can’t say that the idea of apocalypse excites me, per se: it’d be pretty bad for things like cold beer and overpriced little pastries. (Also, corpses and stuff. How unhygienic.) But if I had to pick… It would be like living in an open-world adventure: find allies, loot abandoned stores and buildings, try not to starve to death — all that fun stuff.
